Mizu Iwa is Japanese for "Water"(Mizu) and "Rock"(Iwa). It is also the name of the Karate Dojo run by Sensei Gary Carrer in Northern Virginia.

The Significance

The concepts represented by Water and Rock are important to Isshinryu Karate. The seemingly seemingly exclusive concepts of hard and soft co-exist in many places in the practice of Isshinryu. In fact the third Code of Isshinryu mentions that "The manner of drinking and spitting is either hard or soft."
